Path to: Owner’s Representation

Story by Gemma Beasley / July 22, 2026

In my experience over the last decade or so recruiting in NYC, Owner’s representation roles have always generated a lot of interest.

A lot of that interest comes from those already working in the industry – on the delivery side with a GC or CM, or coming from a background in architecture. Many see it as a logical next step in their career.

But from the outside, owner’s rep work can be hard to see clearly. What the role actually involves, how people get there, and what changes once you make the move are often opaque.

So I set out to make it clearer. This report draws on in-depth interviews with women currently working in owner’s rep roles, alongside survey responses and ongoing conversations with clients across the market. We talked about career paths, day-to-day work, responsibility, credibility, and how the role feels in practice over time.

It’s not a guide or a set of recommendations. It doesn’t suggest a single route in, or that the role is right for everyone. Instead, it reflects lived experience – real conversations with women doing the work, leading teams and businesses.

The report is out now. It’s called Path to: Owner’s Representation.

If you’re currently working in the industry and you’ve wondered what a move to an owner’s rep role involves, I hope you’ll find it interesting.
